Native American Heritage Month 2023

November is recognized as National American Indian Heritage Month! The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Native Americans.

This year, Moundville Archaeological Park is celebrating Native American Heritage Month with award-winning Muscogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma artist, Mary Smith, and her apprentice for the month, Nancy Spain (Muscogee Creek Nation of Oklahoma), as our Collaborative Artists-in-Residence at Moundville Archaeological Park. These events have been sponsored by The University of Alabama’s Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and have been made possible in part by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
